Reports and Publications

FDR has ongoing publication programme aimed at dissemination of research findings in shape of reports, books, booklets, monographs and series of papers etc. Some are displayed as under:





The study entitled Educational Level and Access to Employment Sector among Women of Scheduled Caste Families in Uni-District, Chandigarh U.T was sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi. The study was commenced in 2015 and completed in 2016. The study explores the relationship between educational and its access to employment among women of scheduled caste families in Chandigarh (UT). The report is meticulously written after conducting interviews from selected sample of women. On the basis of results, some suggestions have been made that are useful for researchers, administrators and policymakers.



The book entitled Tribal People living in Punjab: Their Past, Present and Future, is written in Punjabi language and was published in 2016 with ISBN No 978-81922080-1-5, Rs. 200/-, $ 20, £ 10, pages 108.

The main aim of the book was to highlight the Past, Present and Future of Tribal people living in Punjab. In fact, the government's documents revealed that the state has no tribal population in Punjab but some people considered themselves tribal, despite they are also listed in lists of scheduled castes and backward classes of Punjab.



The book entitled Self Medication----Regional Perspective was published in 2015 with ISBN No 978-81922080-0-8, Rs. 450/-, $ 15, £ 10, pages 212.

The book analyzed factors responsible for self-medication. The information and data collected through sample survey tested the hypotheses and highlighted that rural people have very limited access to appropriate and affordable medicine from government health facilities. The book reveals that self-medication is a common way of treatment of oneself without professional help, which have health related ramifications. The book is useful as reference document for policymakers, researchers and those engaged in medical and pharmaceutical profession.



The study entitled Gender-Based Domestic Violence in Scheduled Castes Families in Rural Punjab: Factors Analysis was sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi. The study was commenced in 2014 and completed in 2015. The study was intended to assess factors responsible for domestic violence against women. It dealt with the violence that occurs within the family between males and females. It provides systematic empirical data on socio-economic, cultural and environmental factors which impart gender discrimination sported by other research studies. On the basis of results, some suggestions have been made which is useful for researchers, administrators and policymakes.



The study entitled Self-medication and Its Impact on Health Care: A Comparative study of Socio-economic, Educational and Cultural Status of Consumers in Rural Punjab and Haryana was sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi. The study was commenced in 2013 and completed in 2014. The study probes factors related to self-medication. The data revealed that rural population has very limited access to appropriate and affordable medicines, thus most people are forced to avail market for self medication for their health care requirements. These consist of chemist shops, quacks/RMPs, provision stores, friends/relatives that lead to promote self-medication. The collected data encourage various factors-factual and hypothetically, which revealed self-medication practices cannot be eliminated. The result of the study is useful for policymakers and researchers.



The study entitled Independent Evaluation of Innovation on Infant & Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Counseling in 8 Districts of Punjab was sponsored by the Mission Director, NRHM-Punjab. The study was commenced in 2013 and completed in 2013. IYCF Program is one of the components of NRHM, implementing in the state of Punjab. It aims to enforce optimal breast feeding of children to lower down maternal and infant mortality. To find out the implementation and performance status of the IYCF Program, the study evaluated the program on sample based in 8 district of Punjab with the co-operation of ANMs and ASHAs, the visit to beneficiaries at village level was done. This study has projected some concrete suggestions for improvement of IYCF program to be implemented in other districts of Punjab. This evaluative study would have greater social impact on the rural area population.



The studies entitled Post Enumeration Survey of DISE Data (2011-12 and 2012-13) were sponsored by the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Society, Chandigarh UT. The studies were commenced in 2011 and completed in 2012 as well as commenced in 2012 and completed in 2013. Both the reports present the findings of the deviation of PES data and DISE data. The studies focused survey of 20 Sample Government schools of UT for each report. The aim of the evaluation was to analysis the status of PES data collected by field agency and DISE data submitted by schools.



The studies entitled (1) External Evaluation of National Rural Health Mission NRHM: A Study of State/District UT Chandigarh (2011); (2) A Rapid Diagnostic Study on Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme and National Leprosy Eradication Programme and Immunization Programme in Chandigarh (2011); and (3) Monitoring and Evaluation of Implementation of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM): A Study of UT Chandigarh (2010-12) were sponsored by NRHM, Chandigarh Administration, Sector-22, Chandigarh. The reports evaluated the current status of CHCs, CDs, sub centers of Chandigarh--Uni-district. The information was collected through questionnaire from official of health centers. These reports highlight that in spite of adequacies and constraints, the Chandigarh Health Department seems to have performed well with respect to achievement of overall implementation of health service under NRHM scheme, but its impact is yet to be realized. Although, the physical and primary health care services seem satisfactory but the same could be further improved by involving the services of NGOs and civil society groups for effective health care delivery to all, suggested by field agency.



The impact studies on Population and Adolescence Education Activities Performed in The Schools of Punjab and Impact of Role Play and Folk Dance Activities Performed in Sample Schools of Punjab were sponsored by Population Education Cell, State Institute of Science Education (SISE), Punjab. The studies highlight the impact of training programmes organized by Punjab government for school teachers relating to population and development. After training programmes the department of education instructs the teachers to teach the students as the teachers have learnt during training programme.
